Self-portrait challenge day 15 and art journaling fun!

August16

I did this quickie self-portrait on a flip chart today so it’s huge!  It’s a mind map of what i want to accomplish today.  I put the timer on and gave myself 10 minutes to complete it.

Now this portrait is radically different – it took well over 2 hours to create.

The top half of the art journal page is what i was “Doing” at the time – sitting waiting for a few hours at the courthouse.  The bottom half of the page is about what i was thinking at the time. I think if you are stumped as to what to do for a journal page this might be a good template to start with.  Let’s say you are at the coffee shop having coffee and sketching. So you might draw your coffee cup and your scone. Below that you might want to document in a stream of conscious fashion what you are thinking about. You could be thinking about what you need to pick up from the grocery store – you could sketch out a picture of vegetables and write down something about the upcoming trip to the store. It doesn’t have to be anything earth shattering.

Thankfully i don’t have to go back to court – the case was settled while the juror’s-in-waiting were waiting to be called. HOORAY!!!!!!!  While the 50 or so of us were waiting in a room i sketched for 2 hours – I’m glad i had brought some cardstock and pens, pencil crayons otherwise i would have been a little miss crankypants.

Funnily enough no one approached me to ask what i was doing. Wouldn’t you have asked a person sketching about what they were doing if you were stuck in a room with them for over 2 hours?  I would!

Oh and if you read my journal page you would see that i thought maybe the Universe would send me some gifts?  Well i think the main gift i received was not having to sit in court for 3 weeks while the rest of my summer whizzed by me Smile.

I REALLY enjoyed creating this page – it was a very Zen-like experience as i was deliberately slowing down to complete it, enjoying following lines and gently colouring things in.  I only brought a few colours with me – pencil crayons and a couple of copic markers.  Of course the black lines are created with micron pens.

How are you all coming along on your Self-portrait challenge?  As you can see you can create a portrait in a few minutes or as i just did while waiting you can spend much more time on a page when you get the chance!

Well i shall see you tomorrow!

I think I probably would ask what they were doing or at least try to have a peak as they worked. Is it because we both like to draw and learn that we would behave that way? If I see someone else drawing I am usually enthralled by their process and always hope that I will pick up something from watching. Hence why I love to watch videos of others creating too!

WOnderfull self portrait, i must still find enough courage. But i recognize what you said about people asking what you are doing, when you are drawing/sketching/journaling in public. NOTHING! Just kids come and ask. Funny, because i certainly would!
