Oh the Hollyhocks! Another drawing opportunity!

September2

hollyhock1

The other day i was walking along the walkway to the front door and there was this gorgeous Hollyhock staring me right in the face as if to say ‘HELLO???  Aren’t I just simply so beautiful??” So i said out loud “Yes you are beautiful!”  Mr. G was pulling up the rear and wondered who i was talking to.  I told him I was talking to the hollyhock.  He just smirked – guess he’s used to me by now. Smile

I decided to take a photo of it while almost lying down on the sidewalk looking up!  Cool eh? You can see the dragonfly on the front of the house!  I’m sure the neighbours were wondering what i was doing outside first thing in the morning in my jammies brandishing a camera!

Here’s another view just in case you didn’t notice how beautiful and majestic the hollyhock is Smile

heliotrope1

I am so in love with this heliotrope that sits at the backdoor. It smells like baby powder – has the most wonderful scent.  The other day i was feeling so full of gratitude for all of the little blessings in my life- particularly the plants and flowers.  I scooped this plant in my arms and gave it a gentle hug and said “I love you!”.

I think i will honour my plant friends by creating some small drawings/paintings to incorporate in my art journals.  With the days of summer coming to a close I want to savour the bounty in the garden!  Have you thought of sketching and painting some of the plants in your garden or on your balcony? When you do so it’s like being in the moment and truly seeing the plant in an intimate way. You are able to capture a moment or feeling that a photograph never can.

New e-mag out called Collage in Colour

Cloth Paper Scissors has a new e-mag out called “Collage in Colour” – if you are like me and like to experience things in more than just one way you might enjoy the e-mag.  You can access videos and slideshows as well as read articles and interviews.

Carla Sonheim’s Art of Silliness: Silly 1 Redux

Carla Sonheim has an online class out called The Art of Silliness redux – check it out – there’s a cute youtube video of what you will get when you sign up for the class. It sounds like fun! When i attended Journalfest last year Carla’s classes were super popular!

Next week I will be having a book giveaway – not my book but the fabulous book Creatively Fit.  I will also be giving away a piece of my art or two to some lucky winner – so stay tuned!

Thank you to everyone for the recipe ideas!  you’re the best!

I hope you all will have a fantabulous weekend – it’s a long weekend here in Canada.

Ah hollyhocks – just the name conjures up sunshine and bees buzzing. I wish I could grow them but I think I’m too close to the beach – but I’ll plant some anyway and see what happens! It’s a perfect spring morning and I’m ready for anything!

Thanks for the link to Carla Sonheim’s online class – an injection of silliness is always good for the spirit – I’m in!
