Hello friends! Longtime no hear! So sorry i have not blogged for what seems like forever. You may wonder where i have been. Well we moved from the magic cottage to beautiful Sechelt. It had been one of my dreams to move to the Sunshine Coast and now finally we have. I am totally in love with it here – the nature, peace, slower pace of life, less crime …..i could go on and on. It’s been good for my soul. Mr. G has been busy building shelves, erecting a shed and doing tons of other things (with wood) in our new home!
In the meantime i have been making art, putting on a workshop here in Sechelt, making new friends and commuting back and forth to the mainland via a ferry to visit family.
So what’s new? I was interviewed by Gracie from Willowing and Friends – my first interview in a while. If you’d like to read a bit more about what i’ve been up to please go here.
I’ve created a special video just for the interview – a how to create a quirky caricature too! You’ll have a high resolution image of my art to download and the opportunity to enter to win some swag. Please watch the video and enter the contest here. Thank you so much Gracie for interviewing me and thank you Tamara for having me on your blog. I appreciate it!
I would love to know what you would like to see me blog about – just leave me a comment. Thank you so much.
Hello friends! We have a winner – Sandy Boren! Please contact me so i can mail you your prizes!
I have been absent for a while – been on an amazing wilderness adventure which I will write about next week. I was able to do some art journaling on this adventure in the Great Bear Rainforest so I’m happy to share a few pages with you next week.
But for now I’m thrilled to tell you about Kathryn Costa’s book The Mandala Guidebook: How to draw, paint and color expressive mandala art! I was sent a review copy and absolutely love it. This guidebook gives you step by steps on how to create free form mandalas but also mandalas using a compass and protractor. Funnily enough Kathryn mentions some people’s fear or reticence in using those instruments – dating back to their school days where geometry struck fear in their hearts. That would be me :). I don’t think I’ve owned a compass and protractor for a few decades. If you’d like to download a free chapter you can click here.
As you can see I have incorporated free form decorative mandalas in my art for some time and truly enjoy how they spice up a page. After reading Kathryn’s book and perusing some of the projects as well as studying her simple step by step instructions I am going to buy a compass set and start making intentional mandalas.
This was one of my favourite mandalas in Kathryn’s book.
I am especially intrigued to use mandalas to solve problems, let go of my fears and to use in my gratitude practise. Drawing intentional mandalas will also give you greater clarity and insight on what’s happening in your life. The possibilities are truly endless.
This book is full of prompts, pattern ideas, inspiration and mixed media techniques from using simple pen and paper to more complex mixed media projects. There truly is something for everyone here.
In celebration of the release of The Mandala Guidebook I’m having a giveaway. You can enter to win some of my artful products – journal book, bookmarks, postcard, greeting card, Heidi wood block and Teens Dream Journal DVD. Simply leave me a comment here – letting me know if you have used mandalas in your mixed media or art journal pages before. I’ll pick a winner on Saturday May 28th at 9 am PST.
Hello my friends!
CONTEST CLOSED! THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU WHO ENTERED. WE HAVE A WINNER – TERESA – CONGRATULATIONS. I WILL BE CONTACTING YOU TO SEND YOU YOUR GOODIES. TERESA’S QUOTE WAS:

Just to let you know i use the random number generator to choose a number – i wish i could give you all a prize.
I am 61 today and in celebration of living 61 years and to thank you for your support and love over the years I am having a contest giveaway! Yay! You might be wondering why i am showing you my ear? Well my wonderful son and daughter-in-law gifted me with hearing aids – you can’t see them can you? They are so skookum. Now i can hear layers of things i could never hear before, can hear conversations going on in the cubicles at the bank and don’t have to keep saying WHAT???? It’s so cool – and to think i was so reticent to get them and admit i have a hearing loss.
I’ll be giving away an original illustration (i made inspiration cards with these) – Believe, A “love who you are” dog tag necklace, a set of 10 postcards and admittance to my online workshop Journal Bliss! The workshop is on art journaling and is full of techniques, tips and tricks.
In order to enter the contest please let me know in the comment section of my blog on this post what your favourite quote is. I’ll be drawing one lucky winner Wednesday June 24 at 9 am PST. Good Luck!

Happy Saturday everyone! I know i have been rather erratic in posting. One post a week seems to be the best i can do these days!
I know that folks are not spending as much time on blogs these days as they are on Social Media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Pinterest. I’ve been spending more time there myself and especially on Instagram .
So today i thought i would try something different and have a contest giveaway on Instagram instead of my blog. So please go to my feed @violetteclark and enter to win some wonderful goodies. If you are not already signed up on Instagram it’s easy to do so. Being artists you’ll love it – it’s like visual micro blogging.
Here’s what you can win: Jennifer Lee’s lovely book Building your Business the Right Brain way, 3 bookmarks, 3 greeting cards, 10 postcards, one inspirational dog tag necklace (Love who you are).
Good Luck everyone!
I have been working away on my moleskine book and added this painted page called “go for the joy”. Opposite the page is a lovely print by artist Nicole rae. Quite the contrast no?
Here’s a view of the page before i glued and taped it into my book.
This page was lots of fun – i used alcohol inks for the first time in a longtime and did not remember how incredibly vibrant they were! I squirted green on and then the magenta colour which was way to dark! I kept trying a variety of different things to push back the intensity. I ended up using torn masking tape……..
and sponge painted white over top. Some of the magenta bled through but it still allowed me to write on top my message/quote from Buddha. I washi taped the quirky face on and then wrote a message about spectacular mistakes i have made in my life underneath the head.
I freaked out at first because i wasn’t thrilled with how the page was unfolding. In the end it was okay!
What have you been working on lately?
Hope you have a lovely weekend.
Love, Violette xo
We have a winner! Congratulations to Penny D!! Thanks everyone for entering my contest.
Hooray! I can’t believe that I have been blogging for 10 years! In celebration of that feat and to thank you so much for visiting my blog and supporting me I’m having a blog giveaway. I’ll be giving away a set of Inspiration Cards based on my #60in60 cartoons.
There are 60 inspiration cards to inspire you daily. If you’d like to enter to win please leave a comment down below letting me know what you do with your inspiration cards (if you have some) and how you use them. If you don’t own a set of inspiration cards (and i mean angel cards, You can Heal your life cards etc.) I’ll be using some of your ideas in a video promoting the cards and how to use them in the very near future!
I’ll be drawing a name on Monday November 3 at 8 am PST.
Good luck to you!
P.S. If you would like to reserve a set of cards for yourself (they will be 15 dollars plus shipping) please shoot me an e-mail and i’ll keep your name on the list.
