Art Journal inspiration!

Hooray!  It’s hump day today!

Yesterday the winner of my March Contest – Skye came over with her teenage daughter Autumn to pick up her winnings. She was interested in showing her daughter my art journals and journal pages so i put them out on my table for them to take a look!  In the green box i keep all of my loose pages which is the way I tend to like journaling best. We had tea, coffee and juice and a nice long visit.

The Big green box used to hold tea and it’s the perfect container to house all of those loose pages of mine.  If there ever was a house fire i would take my green box, these journals and my computer hard drive…….oh – and a couple of photo albums too! What would you take?

Looking for old journals and taking them out for Skye and Autumn to view brought back memories. The above image – Joy Boy – was created about 12 years ago.  The boy is jumping into the “net” – a real tulle net – he’s taking a risk and jumping.  Back then my pages were telling me what to do next. This page flips out of the book – on the backside of the page it says “The Abyss”.  I love this page.

I can’t believe how far Art Journaling has come since then – back then i could only find things on Creative Journaling – no art journaling.

I took the opportunity to give both Skye and Autumn lots of art journal prompts and technique ideas. Later Skye came back over and purchased my book Journal Bliss. Wasn’t that sweet?

Skye took a photo of her swag and posted it on Facebook!

People interested in mixed media and art journaling tend to be the nicest folks! And speaking of getting together with nice folks – next Tuesday March 25th at 3:30 pm is our Free Art Journal Jam at the Good Day Sunshine Cafe!  Everyone is welcome.  Just buy a beverage, bring your art journal and favourite pens and journal away with us!

      Doggie howling at the moon

Do you remember i was working on a doggie cartoon the other day? Well Natasha of Creative Nachos had an amazing idea up her sleeve that she wanted some of her artist friends to participate in.  She wanted to pair up an artist with a child (my child was in grade 3) and have the artist interpret the child’s drawing in their own way!  It could have been 2D, 3D, photography, origami or??? If you want to see what my child’s drawing looked like and check out all of the amazing artists renditions as well as Natasha’s lovely intent behind the exercise please check out this blogpost. Natasha has such a beautiful spirit – these small children are so lucky to have her in their lives!

I decided to do a black and white cartoon since i love cartooning so much. The child’s drawing of a dog and the words (which i used verbatim hence the spelling mistake) reminded me of Snoopy in Charlie Brown.

I coloured the cartoon digitally……….here’s the finished piece.  Natasha mentioned that some artists were going to send their child the original of their work so I decided I’ll be doing that too!  Fun!

Well that’s it for today – I’m off to babysit my little grandson Cillian! I hope you have a fabulous weekend and for those of you celebrating Christmas – I hope you are not to rushed and frazzled with the holiday preparations! Take some time out to chill and do something creative!

        Holiday Magic

Hello there!  I wanted to share a photo of the Magic Cottage all lit up!  We light the dragonfly all year round but the rest of the house and the archway is lit for the Christmas Season!

        A wee Holiday video…..

I quickly took this video with my cell phone the other day to show you the magic cottage decorated for the holidays.  I thought the UFO on the hearth next to the Believe wreath as kind of funny!

Dog Cartoons, Santa’s Elves and Gift tags

Happy Monday my creative friends! I hope you had a great weekend!

Mr. G and I were busy decorating the house and adding another string of lights to the tree outside.  I don’t have any pictures yet of the inside of the house but here’s a rather festive photo taken of Mr. G and yours truly at my friend Susan’s home over the weekend.

We kind of look like Santa’s little helpers don’t we? We actually went to Susan’s that night so we could take some promotional photos for our upcoming workshop on embracing your passion!

Here’s a rough little sketch I’m working on for a cartoon I’m creating for a special little girl. She’s into dogs however drawing cartoon dogs is not my specialty so I need a bit of practise Smile.

Frogs – I can do Smile!  Speaking of which if you’d like some cute free frog gift tags please click here!

I created these fun gift tags last year you might want to download them too – click here!

I still plan on creating some this year but haven’t quite gotten there yet! When i do I’ll share them with you – I’m guessing there are some last minute Nellies out there that are just like me when it comes to shopping for gifts and wrapping presents?

We haven’t had too many entries (i’m surprised!) for my December giveaway – so if you haven’t already done so – you can enter here!

How are you all doing with your decorating (if you celebrate the holidays) and Xmas shopping?
