Kathryn Costa’s Mandala Guidebook and a giveaway!

Hello friends!  I have been absent for a while – been on an amazing wilderness adventure which I will write about next week.  I was able to do some art journaling on this adventure in the Great Bear Rainforest so I’m happy to share a few pages with you next week.

But for now I’m thrilled to tell you about Kathryn Costa’s book The Mandala Guidebook: How to draw, paint and color expressive mandala art!  I was sent a review copy and absolutely love it.  This guidebook gives you step by steps on how to create free form mandalas but also mandalas using a compass and protractor.  Funnily enough Kathryn mentions some people’s fear or reticence in using those instruments – dating back to their school days where geometry struck fear in their hearts. That would be me :).  I don’t think I’ve owned a compass and protractor for a few decades. If you’d like to download a free chapter you can click here.

As you can see I have incorporated free form decorative mandalas in my art for some time and truly enjoy how they spice up a page.  After reading Kathryn’s book and perusing some of the projects as well as studying her simple step by step instructions I am going to buy a compass set and start making intentional mandalas.

This was one of my favourite mandalas in Kathryn’s book.

I am especially intrigued to use mandalas to solve problems, let go of my fears and to use in my gratitude practise.  Drawing intentional mandalas will also give you greater clarity and insight on what’s happening in your life. The possibilities are truly endless.

This book is full of prompts, pattern ideas, inspiration and mixed media techniques from using simple pen and paper to more complex mixed media projects.  There truly is something for everyone here.

In celebration of the release of The Mandala Guidebook I’m having a giveaway.  You can enter to win some of my artful products – journal book, bookmarks, postcard, greeting card, Heidi wood block and Teens Dream Journal DVD.  Simply leave me a comment here – letting me know if you have used mandalas in your mixed media or art journal pages before.  I’ll pick a winner on Saturday May 28th at 9 am PST.

Good Luck!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

buddha_gifttag

Merry Christmas and Happy holidays to you all!  Like most people I have been busy getting ready for Christmas so there has not been too much drawing happening here.  I did squeeze in a bit of time to create this tiny buddha gift card.  Materials used? copic markers, micron pens, pencil crayons, washi tape, old book pages and folkart paint.

Images of Christmas

This tiny unicorn insisted on coming home with me while i was out and about Christmas shopping. Isn’t he the sweetest?  He’s going to sit on my altar and inspire me to create, be magical and believe in my dreams!

I tried taking a selfie on Instagram – i kind of like this filter (Mayfair) and the magical quality you can achieve from it. The Moroccan Mosaic Mirror provides extra sparkle as the light bounces off of it.

The tiny sparkly pink Christmas tree i purchased as a display for my table at my networking event sits atop the fridge in the kitchen.

This is what it looked it when i had it decked out with my inspiration cards.

Yesterday i spent several hours with a teenage friend Talia (some of you know that i mentored her several years ago) cleaning up the office which had gotten unwieldy. Unbeknownst to us we were cleaning at the perfect time – when the Winter Solstice was in full swing. It’s a time of new beginnings and fresh starts!  I’m so thrilled with the results! Thank you Talia!

If you still need some free Christmas gift cards – please go here to download three different kinds!

Wishing you and yours a most magical holiday Season. I want to thank you so much for being a part of my life all these years.  I so appreciate you visiting and commenting on my blog or even just sharing your energy by taking a peek!

Lots of love to you and yours!

I’ll be back on Monday Dec. 29th!

Free Christmas Gift tags!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Yesterday we had the Art Journal Jam at the Good Day Sunshine Cafe and had such a great time.  This time it was a smaller group – i think around 8 or 10 of us but we were just as loud as always Smile. Everyone worked on something different, sketching, collaging, gluing, chatting and sharing!  I worked on a little Santa drawing which you see here:

I made the drawing into gift tags for you! I attempted to create a Google Document so you can download it – not sure if this will work for you or not but click here to download

If it doesn’t work I’ll have Mr. G fix it later tonight okay?  I hope you enjoy the gift tags!

Don’t they look sweet once you cut them up?

I created some large actual size images to put on my little grandson’s presents! I’ve wrapped half of my presents but didn’t put any gift tags on them yet since i knew I’d be creating some new ones this year!

An Organized New Year!

organization

A couple of days ago i hired Debby of Streamlined Solutions to come and help me organize my office for a few hours.  She’s very kind, helpful and organized Smile.  Debby specializes in helping folks who are chronically disorganized, hoarders or people with ADD. Here’s Debby surrounded by many piles of things which had to be categorized. She didn’t seem daunted by anything i threw at her! I would definitely recommend her services.

What are you doing in the New Year? Organizing your craft room, taking new classes, going back to school or finding a job? I’d like to know!

I’ll be taking a break from blogging for two weeks and will be back on Friday January 3.  If you celebrate Christmas I wish you a wonderful time shared with family and good friends. May the New Year bring you many blessings.

I’ll see some of you on Facebook!

Thank you so much for spending some time here visiting my blog. I appreciate it!

Dog Cartoons, Santa’s Elves and Gift tags

Happy Monday my creative friends! I hope you had a great weekend!

Mr. G and I were busy decorating the house and adding another string of lights to the tree outside.  I don’t have any pictures yet of the inside of the house but here’s a rather festive photo taken of Mr. G and yours truly at my friend Susan’s home over the weekend.

MrGandV1

We kind of look like Santa’s little helpers don’t we? We actually went to Susan’s that night so we could take some promotional photos for our upcoming workshop on embracing your passion!

Here’s a rough little sketch I’m working on for a cartoon I’m creating for a special little girl. She’s into dogs however drawing cartoon dogs is not my specialty so I need a bit of practise Smile.

I created these fun gift tags last year you might want to download them too – click here!

I still plan on creating some this year but haven’t quite gotten there yet! When i do I’ll share them with you – I’m guessing there are some last minute Nellies out there that are just like me when it comes to shopping for gifts and wrapping presents?

We haven’t had too many entries (i’m surprised!) for my December giveaway – so if you haven’t already done so – you can enter here!

How are you all doing with your decorating (if you celebrate the holidays) and Xmas shopping?

Chalkboard and Clipboard Organization

Yay – i finally have the video up!

chalkboard_finished

In this video I show you how to organize yourself especially if you have ADHD and need to see your projects at a glance in order to not forget about them. I paint a chalkboard wall and then mod podge clipboards to pretty them up. Later I write on the chalkboard wall to denote the contents of the clipboard. I’m pretty jazzed at how it all has come together. The disorganized part of me is very happy to have added this new tool! I hope you enjoy it too! If you like it why not Pin it to your Organization or art board?  Thank you!
