Hello friends! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. We celebrated a bunch of family birthdays on Saturday – my grandson Sam’s, son Ryan, stepdad Ron and nephew Adam. We had so much fun!
As you know I’m working on a Day planner/Calendar started by Suzi Blu on Facebook. Suzi gives us prompts to focus on every week. One of them the past week was “savour”. Since i receive much joy while watching the birds in the backyard I thought I would honour some of them by drawing them. I don’t usually draw birds and don’t feel comfortable doing so but i think these little guys turned out not too badly. Later I journaled around them.
Yesterday was a very dreary drizzly day and i was feeling kind of blue. So I asked Mr. G to come out to the park for a little walk. He grumbled, didn’t want to but finally obliged me. I’m so happy he did. I got to hug my favourite tree AND bonus………some magical little fairy people left painted rocks nearby for lucky recipients to find! I don’t know if you can see but there are several near my tree above, by my feet and in the hollow of the tree.
Here’s a couple in the hollow. I was sooo excited. Mr. G thought i was funny! I said to him “See! I knew there was a reason we should go out for a walk!”
There must have been at least a dozen rocks in various places but i only took two good size ones. One with a painted tree and one with a sunset. There were lots of painted bunny rocks which i’m guessing were created by a little girl. These ones were a bit more sophisticated. How lucky am i eh? Thank you Emily! (the signature on the back said Emily)
As we exited the park I noticed a Mom and a little girl wearing a long skirt (i’m guessing a fairy skirt). I pointed to them and told Mr. G that they were probably on a mission to spread joy in the park. I noticed they were carrying a bag with them which probably carried rocks. What a wonderful thing to do with your child – to teach them that magic exists in the world and we can also spread magic and glitter wherever we go!

Happy Wednesday everyone! I don’t really have much to report or share right now apart from a couple of pictures i created in my planner. Here’s one sketch on a page called Savour – if you savour the goodness in your life you are apt to get more of it. It’s something to focus on. Speaking of which I am reading a great book on Happiness (and savouring) called Hardwiring Happiness by Rick Hanson. I highly recommend it if you are always trying to catch the elusive happiness or at least bringing more of it into your life. I think my default setting is on negative (like most people Rick Hanson will argue) so I need to make a conscious effort to pay attention to the happy moments and dwell on them longer.
Here’s another little drawing i did which attaches to my diary/planner……..it’s a reminder as well. I just want to say how much fun i’m having keeping a planner in this way – it’s like i can store my thoughts and dreams as well as appointments all in one spot! I hope i keep it up.

Wow – I can’t believe it – soon Christmas will be upon us. I’m not quite ready yet – I have several gifts to get. How about you? A good friend gave me this lovely Christmas arrangement which i thought looked smashing on my painted coffee table! I took a photo and posted it on Instagram. Which reminds me – if you are on instragram come and follow me. If you are following me and i haven’t followed you back (because i’m still trying to figure out how it works) please let me know!
LIFEBOOK 2015 Starts in 2 weeks!
This Christmas I am not wanting for too much apart from books (which i love) – artsy, spiritual and personal growth books are always on my list! What is most important to me are experiences……….especially creative experiences. I’m asking for Ukulele lessons (you may recall I tried a couple of years ago to learn how to play and ended up quitting but this time i’d like to be serious about it. My Uke sits in a basket staring at me and imploring me to learn to play!). I also like the gift of online courses. At my age – 60 – there is not too much I need as I’ve amassed so much – as I’m sure you have as well.Taking classes and learning from other creatives always gets my mojo going!
And speaking of which – there are just 2 weeks left before LIFEBOOK 2015 starts up! It’s going to be an Art Journaling extravaganza! What better gift to give to yourself or to a loved one – the gift of creativity!! I can’t think of anything better. LIFEBOOK 2015 is going to be awesome! With more than 2 dozen artists teaching a couple of classes each (i’m one of them! Yay!) your year will be full of joyful creativity and self-discovery.
I can’t wait to begin – in fact I’ll be shooting my first class this week so I’m super duper excited! So if you or your loved one are stumped for what to ask for consider the gift of this amazing year long workshop series. At the end of it all you’ll have a fab book of your adventures.
People are talking about the community that forms around LIFEBOOK and how encouraging the teachers and participants are. For many people this is the cherry on top! I hope you’ll join us!

Good morning everyone! I apologize for not blogging on Friday. I have been suffering from insomnia and if i have to get out the door for anything in the morning it’s difficult for me to blog and get my act together.
Mr. G and I finally decorated the house for Christmas yesterday. Here’s our little tree all decorated! I did pick some greens from the garden to put in a basket along with some pine cones to add a Christmasy smell to the house.
Christmas Comfort and Joy wooden sign
Mr. G and i also spent a few hours creating this sign in the midst of decorating. It’s a wooden sign with the words “comfort and joy” handpainted on it. Mr. G drilled some holes and fixed some small Christmas lights to the back.
I antiqued the edges with stain and smeared some glitter on it! I shot some video of how we made the sign and will post the tutorial in a couple of days.
Christmas Shadow box Craft
On Friday I visited my little grandsons. I had planned out a Christmas Shadow box craft. Armed with some dollar-store ornaments and boxes I visited their home on craft day!
Oh what fun we had. Here’s Toby (2 1/2) pulling funny faces next to his Shadow box. He was very proud of it. He had fun painting his background and making snow dots with the end of a pencil. My daughter-in-law put the shadowboxes on a shelf to create a cute Holiday display.
Here is Sam with his cute Shadowbox Snowman. He chose two baubles for his creation.
Tomorrow is our Art Journal Jam Christmas gathering here at the Magic Cottage. If you are not on Facebook and don’t get the updates you can e-mail me. If you like we are doing a gift exchange so bring a wrapped gift – an appropriate artsy gift might be a set of ATC’s , a print or two of your work, a set of cards of your art, an ornament you made etc.
Well that’s it for today. I’ll be posting the video on Wednesday morning.

Happy Monday everyone! I hope my American friends had a good Thanksgiving Holiday – you might be still celebrating too!
I have to go to the doctors for a bunch of issues and rather than go to see the Doctor for one issue at a time I decided that many of them might be related and the best way for me to demonstrate that would be to do a quick drawing of my symptoms (i left a few out which i will add later). I think if you go into the Doctor’s office and have less than 5 minutes to talk about your problems it’s good to be prepared.
I was not aiming for a pretty drawing or anything – just something which could be self-explanatory. You could probably do something like this in your art journal and make it much more elaborate on a mixed media background to document where you are now and then another page “where you are later”.
Over the weekend I was feeling rather listless and unmotivated. A little voice told me to draw a Unicorn so I decided to go for it. I felt a bit guilty since there was no rhyme or reason for it and i could have spent that time cleaning up.
In any case i had fun – I think i’ll incorporate it into a future journal page.
Lifebook 2015 starts in one months time! If you’d like to sign up to get access to many of your favourite teachers and transformative projects check this out! I’m really happy to be one of the teachers this year around!
See you later!

P.S. I can’t believe we are already into December!
