This is a video with Tina Ferguson and Minette Riordan (of North Texas Kids) – they have been meeting for the past 5 months to create their own Bohemian Bliss book based on my Bohemian Bliss Mixed Media Journal Book online class. Thank you so much ladies for taking the time to post this video of your beautiful creations! What i love best of all is that Tina and Minette enjoyed the process, took their time and simply delighted in just two friends getting together having fun! Both Tina and Minette have incredibly busy lives but they found the time to plan a playdate regularly to create and chat. How many of us could enjoy such a respite from our frantic week to have a time out to make art?
What was so much fun was that the ladies REALLY enjoyed tie dyeing the paper towels! I remember doing that and enjoying the messy process, hanging the paper towels to dry and then watching the juicy painted papers flapping in the wind – some of them even had glitter on them making the papers glint and shimmer in the sun. It was such a treat!
Years ago when i volunteered teaching crafts to Street Kids I noticed that working on crafts was a good way to get the kids to open up and talk about their troubles or their daily lives. Art became a vehicle for healing, an entry point to accessing the truly important issues in their lives but also a way to let go and have fun! I remember one 17 year old girl who had been addicted to heroin asking me to braid her hair in tiny braids and add beads to it. This wasn’t part of the curriculum but I went along with it anyways. We were creating hemp bracelets which then evolved to getting asked to add beads to “Lisa’s” hair. It was simply a way to reach out and connect on a human level.
Here I am gushing again about the power of creating art and how it can transform our lives in the most incredible ways!
Well i sure hope you all have a very happy weekend. I plan on planting some flowers – I held off before as the weather has been a bit cool. So I’m looking forward to it!
