Colour Inspiration at the Magic Cottage

Happy Friday everyone!

I just bought a new swingy, breezy top at Christopher’s Gfits yesterday in Ocean Park.  It feels great.  Mr. G took a photo of me wearing it and told me how to pose (i am a bit of a poser i must admit). He had to take a few shots as i was distracted by the wild bunny that was sitting behind Mr. G.

When trying to think of what to blog about this morning I thought about my new top and how the colours inspire me.  When i looked around the magic cottage I noticed that the same colour (colour family) appears again and again in my art, clothing, home and garden. I decided it might be fun to do a roundup of colours that repeat again and again for me.

Here’s that green on the trim of the magic cottage.

cupboards

It’s on the kitchen cupboards too and on the trim of the doors! It’s repeated on the polka dots on the window treatment.

Lovely Chartreuse green greets visitors who come to the front door on the Namaste Sign.

Who can forget the driftwood birdhouse resplendent in green? Behind this birdhouse is another birdhouse you can see in the distance in green as well!

coleus1

This brilliantly coloured coleus sure pops next to the begonias and impatiens no?

Green appears in many of my art journal spreads as well.

What colours repeat again and again for you in your life and art?

Enjoy the weekend!

Love, Violette xo

Love your shirt, it’s very pretty. Also love all the things you posted in your art cottage. Very cute and artsy. And the journal page, too. Love the checkerboard boxes. My friend Viann used those a lot in her work when she was still with us.
I like to use an Artist inspiration pinterest board to keep me in line. I’ve always had a bit of trouble not putting clashing colors in a piece.
Colors that repeat for me in my dragons are purple and blue. When I make a dragon or fairy or gnome without them, it’s hard to like the illustration. But I do try to mix it up.

Thanks Lynne – glad you like my artsy life! I remember Viann and was sad to hear she had passed – she’s my FB friend so after you mentioned her passing I went on her wall.
I’m with you Lynne about putting clashing colours together – i have difficulties knowing what goes together and what doesn’t. Your purple and blue dragons look amazing…..i love that colour combination!.
I’m so glad we are facebook friends too!
      love Violette

A bit off topic, although I enjoyed this post very much. I wanted to tell you that I took your book, “Follow Your Bliss” out of the library and just finished reading it. Thank you! I’ve been stalling all summer while trying to decide what type of journal I wanted to do. Just can’t seem to get started. (I was also teaching a nature journaling class for the month of July which made “play” painting more difficult.) And now at the end of your book you’ve inspired me to begin with a tiny doodle journal! Not too much to bite off–just perfect! Loved the book, loved the encouragement. Thank you again.

      Hi Judi,

Thank you so much for letting me know you read Journal Bliss. How wonderful that it has inspired you to begin a doodle journal. No pressure, no rules……..just fun! I’m so happy for you – it’s about following your Bliss and letting your spirit/muse guide you! No Judgement!
      Have fun.

    Violette,
I love your polka dotted kitchen window treatments/valances.
Did you use canvas to make these?
