Hello friends! I am so sorry i have been missing in action for so long. I’ve been somewhat depressed and tired from lack of sleep (i know that makes everything worse) that i haven’t felt like blogging. You may have seen me on Facebook or Instagram by the way i’d love it if you followed me! It’s easier for me to post quick little photos with a blurb rather than doing a full blogpost.
So I’ve decided to post some of the pieces i have been working on – mostly been working in my moleskine grid book – inspired by Suzi Blu and her Paint Chronicles. The first spread was inspired by Tammy Garcia of Daisy Yellow. If you haven’t already done so do check out Tammy’s blog – she’s full of inspiration and colourful art prompts to get your juices going.
I have been making tons of doodles for years which end up either getting tossed in the garbage or getting lost in my masses of notebooks (as i don’t like keeping a journal) but since i’ve been working a bit in the Moleskine book i have found a place for my little sketches and drawings to live. At least i can look back and see my process. You can see the little running princess and how i started off with sketches which i glued in my book?
The “Oh my soul” little piece came about because i was trying to paint a rock to replace the lovely painted found rocks and it wasn’t working so i swiped the loaded paint brushed on a piece of grid paper. I looked at it and thought “hey – there could be a face in there” so i began doodling and this is what i came up with.
Basically if i just begin then the drawing tells me what it wants next!
This has been a fun experiment (which i highly recommend) if you don’t want to feel like your journal page has to be perfect. Just sketch away and then glue the doodle in an art journal book or a notebook. You can add stickers like i have done here and use washi tape too. I’ve added some images and words from magazines that spoke to me too!
Oh – yes – there’s an art journal jam today at the Good Day sunshine cafe! Hope to see you there at 3!
Well that’s it for today.
I hope you are all well and happy.

Happy Friday everyone! On Wednesday we had the Annual Art Journal Jam Christmas party at the Magic Cottage. What a fun time we had. I enjoyed decorating the house – even the spray painted animals were decked with baubles! In the corner you can see my Secret Santa present all wrapped up!
A Kitchen centerpiece was decked out with red carnations, Christmas baubles and tinsel!
Yours truly and Nicci the co-coordinator of the Art Journal Jam!
Art journalers Sharon and Lynette………
My friend Debbie who i have known for decades (since we were kids!)…..
Nicci in the festooned livingroom!
Lorraine (Nicci’s Mom), Satira and Rosa. There are a few folks missing from these pictures. Even Nicci’s husband Marco and son Duran came along and took part in the gift exchange.
We had a lovely time chatting, eating, drinking and exchanging artful gifts. Thanks everyone who came out to celebrate with us.
See you on Monday!

Good morning everyone! I apologize for not blogging on Friday. I have been suffering from insomnia and if i have to get out the door for anything in the morning it’s difficult for me to blog and get my act together.
Mr. G and I finally decorated the house for Christmas yesterday. Here’s our little tree all decorated! I did pick some greens from the garden to put in a basket along with some pine cones to add a Christmasy smell to the house.
Christmas Comfort and Joy wooden sign
Mr. G and i also spent a few hours creating this sign in the midst of decorating. It’s a wooden sign with the words “comfort and joy” handpainted on it. Mr. G drilled some holes and fixed some small Christmas lights to the back.
I antiqued the edges with stain and smeared some glitter on it! I shot some video of how we made the sign and will post the tutorial in a couple of days.
Christmas Shadow box Craft
On Friday I visited my little grandsons. I had planned out a Christmas Shadow box craft. Armed with some dollar-store ornaments and boxes I visited their home on craft day!
Oh what fun we had. Here’s Toby (2 1/2) pulling funny faces next to his Shadow box. He was very proud of it. He had fun painting his background and making snow dots with the end of a pencil. My daughter-in-law put the shadowboxes on a shelf to create a cute Holiday display.
Here is Sam with his cute Shadowbox Snowman. He chose two baubles for his creation.
Tomorrow is our Art Journal Jam Christmas gathering here at the Magic Cottage. If you are not on Facebook and don’t get the updates you can e-mail me. If you like we are doing a gift exchange so bring a wrapped gift – an appropriate artsy gift might be a set of ATC’s , a print or two of your work, a set of cards of your art, an ornament you made etc.
Well that’s it for today. I’ll be posting the video on Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday a nice group of ladies showed up for our Art Journal Jam at the Good Day Sunshine Cafe! The co-owner of the cafe Jessie makes the most artistic fancy drinks for us! I love how she imbues artistry into everything she does!
Here Satira is thumbing through a beautiful journal book created by one of the members – JoAnn!
The ladies chatting, drawing and having a lovely visit.
We could not ask for a more wonderful group of sharing and caring ladies!
I know so many of you say you wished you lived in our area so you could attend but you can always create such a group in your area. You’ll meet up with so many fabulous people and learn lots of new art techniques!
I’m sure many of my American friends are still eating their way through some yummy Thanksgiving food and enjoying good times with family…….or you might be off trying to bag some bargains on Black Friday. I’m not much of a shopper but if you are I hope you have fun!
Love Violette xo
Happy Hump day!
As i mentioned the other day we were going to America for a full afternoon of art journaling. What fun we had. Joanne Swiss hosted the group in the Common’s room of her complex – thanks Joanne – it was such fun to come play in your inspiring spot of heaven.
When you mix food, beverages and art what fun you can have! Here are some of the ladies sitting down to eat. Joanne – our hostess is to the left and Satira to the right. I love that Satira wore a spunky green fascinator to our Journal Jam! You can see Nicci with her pink hair in the distance. There’s another Susan on the right working on a fairy village – so cute.
Nicci’s Mom came too and so did Nicci’s son Duran who enjoyed using the swimming pool while we were creating.
Supplies and art journal – you bring whatever you want to work on. We had a theme that was voted on – fairies. Apart from a few collage images I didn’t get too much done – i tend to have difficulty creating when lots of people are around – i talk to much and get distracted. I had fun though catching up on everything people were doing.
This is not exactly art journaling but these wooden shoes that Satira is beefing up by adding carved wooden heels will look fabulous in the end when she unleashes her artistic muse on the finishing aspect! Who knows – maybe she’ll combine art and words – a 3 D art journal project.
Susan Wade and the beginnings of her lovely textured canvas. She has used collaged elements and image transfer in this piece.
Maxine worked on a Scrapbooking/art journal hybrid page which was full of yummy texture! It would look great in a shadow box.
Satira did work on a Journal Page – an anthropomorphized cat . She owns four cats so I’m not surprised she chose this subject matter.
Debbie Humprey stuck more closely to the them and created this lovely whimsical fairyland scene.
All in all it was a fab day.
Have you considered getting together with your artsy friends this summer to have a play day?
