Art journaling in my Moleskine

Hello friends!  I am so sorry i have been missing in action for so long. I’ve been somewhat depressed and tired from lack of sleep (i know that makes everything worse) that i haven’t felt like blogging. You may have seen me on Facebook or Instagram  by the way i’d love it if you followed me! It’s easier for me to post quick little photos with a blurb rather than doing a full blogpost.

So I’ve decided to post some of the pieces i have been working on – mostly been working in my moleskine grid book – inspired by Suzi Blu and her Paint Chronicles.  The first spread was inspired by Tammy Garcia of Daisy Yellow. If you haven’t already done so do check out Tammy’s blog – she’s full of inspiration and colourful art prompts to get your juices going.moleskin_sketches1 moleskine_sketches1sketch_paintswipe

I have been making tons of doodles for years which end up either getting tossed in the garbage or getting lost in my masses of notebooks (as i don’t like keeping a journal) but since i’ve been working a bit in the Moleskine book i have found a place for my little sketches and drawings to live.  At least i can look back and see my process. You can see the little running princess and how i started off with sketches which i glued in my book?

The “Oh my soul” little piece came about because i was trying to paint a rock to replace the lovely painted found rocks and it wasn’t working so i swiped the loaded paint brushed on a piece of grid paper. I looked at it and thought “hey – there could be a face in there” so i began doodling and this is what i came up with.

Basically if i just begin then the drawing tells me what it wants next!

This has been a fun experiment (which i highly recommend) if you don’t want to feel like your journal page has to be perfect.  Just sketch away and then glue the doodle in an art journal book or a notebook.  You can add stickers like i have done here and use washi tape too.  I’ve added some images and words from magazines that spoke to me too!

Oh – yes – there’s an art journal jam today at the Good Day sunshine cafe! Hope to see you there at 3!

Well that’s it for today.

I hope you are all well and happy.

Art Journaling Good Times at the Good Day Sunshine Cafe

On Tuesday a nice group of ladies showed up for our Art Journal Jam at the Good Day Sunshine Cafe! The co-owner of the cafe Jessie makes the most artistic fancy drinks for us!  I love how she imbues artistry into everything she does!

Here Satira is thumbing through a beautiful journal book created by one of the members – JoAnn!

The ladies chatting, drawing and having a lovely visit.

We could not ask for a more wonderful group of sharing and caring ladies!

I know so many of you say you wished you lived in our area so you could attend but you can always create such a group in your area. You’ll meet up with so many fabulous people and learn lots of new art techniques!

I’m sure many of my American friends are still eating their way through some yummy Thanksgiving food and enjoying good times with family…….or you might be off trying to bag some bargains on Black Friday.  I’m not much of a shopper but if you are I hope you have fun!

Last Art Journal Jam of the Season!

We had our last Art Journal Jam for the season yesterday at the Good Day Sunshine cafe.  There were about 11 of us gathered around sharing projects, trading secrets and sketching.

In the above photo: right – Autumn, Mom Skye, Debbie Humphrey, JoAnn Foss, Susan Wade, Nicci (pink hair), Satira, Lynette, Suzanne and Sharon.

It’s lots of fun connecting with other creative spirits.  I’ve hosted the art journal jam for two years and am passing along the baton to my good friend Nicci who has graciously accepted the role! I will still be going to the occasional jam unless I am working that day.

Publishing my book of Cartoons

I’m trying to figure out now how to get my little book of cartoons published – should i have a local printer publish it or go through Create Space or  Has anyone had any experience publishing a full colour book themselves?  If you have I’d love to hear about it!

Thank you!

Art Journalers tell all at Art Journal Jam!

I couldn’t resist this title!  After yesterday’s super fun art journal jam at the Good Day Sunshine Cafe I went grocery shopping and saw the title “Duck Dynasty women tell all” on a magazine.  I thought about how funny it would be to switch it around with Art Journalers tell all in the front!  Because whenever you get a group of creative women together they really DO tell all! Smile

This was probably our biggest group ever – we had some young teens at the counter – their Mom’s (in front) brought them along! What a fun group of people – very open to sharing and exchanging ideas!

Joanne Swiss’ tiny Strathmore sketchbook and her portable water colour set.

Here Joanne and Satira ham it up during the Jam!

I love how Satira’s super creative mind works – she just cropped a niche out of her art journal, embellished around the square and placed her sandwich underneath exclaiming “I’m creating a vignette!”.

The table at the Jam.  The project on the right is mine – one of the journalers Jo-Ann brought along her “gelatos” so i could try them out to see if i wanted to buy some!  I love this group!journaljam_Jfpage1

Joanne Swiss kept promising to bring along Suzi Blu’s mixed media piece she scored and finally did!  She also brought along Suzi’s book “Mixed Media Girls” (i have it and it’s great!). It was such fun to see Suzi’s creation up close – lots of lovely layers and textures!  Thanks Joanne!

One of the art journalers Lynette – brought along some gorgeous photos she had taken of her Madonna statues in various locations. She wanted to show me them as she knew I’m a big fan of “Mary”. So sweet of her.

Well that’s it for today – lots of photos of a fun event.  If you don’t have a group of artists you can connect with in your town why don’t you create your own Art Journal Jam like i did? You’ll meet some wonderful people!

Yes Live Concert and Happy Spring!

Happy Friday everyone!  I hope you all enjoyed the first day of Spring!

I was so thrilled last night to attend a Yes Concert with Mr. G last night!  I’m a fan from way back – 40 years ago!  In case you have not heard of them Yes is a fabulous Progressive Rock band that have been playing for 45 years!

Here I am at the concert last night waiting for the band to appear…….so excited!  The evening was pure magic and brought me back to my late teens.  If i closed my eyes it felt like i was listening to the vocals of Jon Anderson. The new singer is Jon Davison – sounds so much like Jon Anderson it isn’t funny.  You can imagine how difficult it must be to hit those high notes when you are close to 70 so it’s wonderful that the new singer can keep the sound alive with his fabulous voice. He has such a lovely spirit too! Bonus! Yes is on tour now so if they come to your city i would highly recommend catching a live concert.

It’s Spring – Hooray!

In honour of spring i decided to take a new photo for my Facebook banner……for some strange reason i keep taking photos of the magic cottage.  The neighbours must think I’m loopy – there i was carting out my revamped skateboard table onto the front lawn to put the pansies on for a photo shoot.

It was a drizzly day when i shot this photo so the colours came out juicy and saturated!

Upcoming Art Journal Jam!

I wanted to give you the heads up about our next art journal jam happening on Tuesday at 3:30 pm at the Good Day Sunshine Cafe in South Surrey.  Come out with your art supplies, grab a cup of java or a hot chocolate and art journal with us.

Enjoy your weekend!
